About Us
The Innovation for Development and Environmental Protection (IDPE) is a non-profit organization founded in 2000 by young members of communities surrounding Virunga National Park. Our mission is to protect and restore the environment, promote human rights linked to natural resources, and enhance the livelihoods of local communities. We raise awareness, support community-led initiatives, monitor natural resource governance, and advocate for the rights of populations living near protected areas. Additionally, we work to safeguard communities from zoonotic diseases transmitted by wildlife.
Together, we protect nature, empower communities, and build a sustainable future where people and the environment thrive in harmony. Through education, innovation, and collective action, we restore balance, inspire responsibility, and ensure that every generation inherits a world full of life, opportunity, and justice.
Our Vision
We envision a world where communities living alongside natural resources are aware, engaged, and benefit from sustainable management. Our goal is to harmonize environmental protection with human development, ensuring improved well-being and fostering lasting coexistence between people and nature.
Our Mission
Our mission is to educate, raise awareness, and empower stakeholders to sustainably manage forest ecosystems and natural resources. We collaborate with local organizations, implement socio-economic initiatives, monitor resource governance, advocate for community rights, and safeguard populations against wildlife-transmitted diseases.
